Rare-earth elements (REE) that are crucial for clean-energy technologies are jealously fought over. Policies and programmes to encourage recycling and recovery could reduce tensions. Here we propose a research perspective on a circular economy for REE with three pillars.
The production of ruminant meat has strong environmental impacts, especially related to land use. Microbial protein, produced in bioreactors, is a land-saving nutritious alternative. We analyzed the environmental effects of microbial protein in the context of the whole agriculture and food system by 2050.
Team science, open data, and long-term monitoring reveal that the mechanisms behind lake dissolved oxygen declines differ in surface and deep waters.
