About Oleksandra Shumilova

I am a freshwater ecologist whose research encompasses multiple directions related to human-nature interactions and sustainable development: 1) ecosystem ecology of intermittent rivers under climate change; 2) biodiversity, geomorphology and hydraulics of river floodplains; and 3) sustainability of water resources during and after armed conflicts. Methodology of my current studies explores synergies between field and laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, statistical and theoretical analysis of data with the purpose to develop quantitative understanding of natural processes and to implement them into practical conservation programs.
